Mage ideas for second LW character?

2020.07.17 10:29 Chezdon2 Mage ideas for second LW character?

Hi,
I've played this game through a few times, and whenever I've played a mage, it's been classic pyro/geo hydro/aero.
I'm playing again with Unleashed mod with a LW rogue, and want a mage to partner me up. I've used Ifan countless times as a ranger and also used 2H which was fun. But I like blowing things up.
I've never really looked at Necro/Poly/Summoning. Are these viable builds and anything in particular that will synergise well with a rogue?
Or is there another mage build that'll go well? I'm planning on picking up Beast, as he's someone I've never played through with.
Thanks!

2020.07.17 10:24 3ateeji Ifan, Sebille, Lohse & Fane all physical dmg party help.

Howdy partners. Finding the beginning of this game a bit overwhelming and want some help creating my team. I'm doing all physical damage build with these preferences:
Ifan - Rangebow type ranged dps (this is the only style i'm 100% certain about)
Lohse - Tank (open to other options)
Fane - Physical damage mage (which i think is the blood mage/necromancer?)
Sebille - Stabby stab rogue type but can utilize the elf blood spill talent
Help a brother out and give me some routes/builds please!

2020.07.13 03:14 Wraith-caller My boyfriend and I just beat DOS2 hours apart from each other in parallel runs. It’s one of my most memorable gaming experiences to date. (SPOILERS)

Just coming on here to gush since this was the first playthrough for both of us and I’m still reeling from how unexpectedly emotional it was. What a game! It’s been so long since I’ve been moved by a video game’s storytelling.
I went in completely blind and ended up being rewarded in a way I didn’t really expect—the game ended up writing my character’s backstory for me. I decided to go for a poly/rogue build as a Shadowblade. I played as a lizard, dark-scaled, red-horned, and very Draconic looking, and because I was lacking a bit of creativity at the time I decided to just call him Shadow. (You can probably see where this is going.) I wanted to partner up with Red Prince and was leaning heavily on building a strong relationship with him, so a lot of my playthrough was invested in building that narrative up. I had no idea where to take my backstory beyond what little information I could get out of the dialogue I chose as Shadow. I had no idea the game was about to drop the House of Shadows or the Shadow Prince right into my lap, lol. Needless to say, come act 3 and some extremely ominous dialogue with the Shadow Prince and suddenly I was witnessing a plot twist for my own blank slate avatar. All the stars aligned—I was a House of Shadows assassin who was defecting after falling in love with the mark. (It’s too bad the romance itself had a disappointing ending.)
I was also traveling with Fane and Lohse and loved them to bits. They had so much emotional payoff that my last few hours of the game were filled with those “try not to cry” moments. It felt especially moving after the final battle and my companions unanimously chose to allow me to claim divinity. I really felt like I had earned their loyalty and that Shadow was like family to them. Fane’s words in the epilogue were especially touching.
My bf was playing a dwarf generalist, mostly melee based and some utility magic, but with a little rogue in there as well. He ended up picking Ifan, Sebille, and Beast for companions. It was interesting having our runs take place concurrently and almost side by side, time wise, though I ended up just ahead of him. It was fun having discussions about our progress and advising him when he needed it.
This was a truly amazing experience. I think I’ll always remember it fondly, both as a gamer and a writer. I just wanted to get this out there and thank Larian for giving us such a great game. I can’t wait to start a new story, this time with my bf and I “swapping” companions, lol. It’s going to be a little sad seeing them from the other side.
How about you guys? What was your first run like? What are your best moments in this game?

2020.07.11 03:25 songweilong Ifans aren’t that different to Kfans when it comes to being delulu.

A lot of ifans will take the moral high ground and be like “we’d never be possessive and crazy like kfans are”, but tbh some ifans are just as demanding for affection from their faves but in more subtle ways. Many demand various forms of fanservice and will get mad if they don’t receive it: “x doesn’t post enough on social media they must hate us”. Some fandoms even make digs at others like: “our faves tell us all the time how much they love us, your faves could never because they hate you”. Like why would that bother me? I am fan of them for their music, performances etc. not because I see them as my partnebest friend/therapist. While idols should to an extent show appreciation to their fans, I don’t think they have to perform fan service 24/7, they are strangers at the end of the day who are just performing their job.

2020.06.20 03:37 MrZDietrich Need help deciding player character

Basically title. I know I want my party to be Ifan, Sebille, Lohse, and Fane but I truly cannot decide who I want as the player character.
I love all of their voices and will be sad not to hear one of them speak regularly. I intend to always pick the [CHARNAME] options when presented them.
I've played most of the way through act 2 lone wolf with ifan main and fane partner and am restarting mostly due to wanting to play on tactician, feeling unsatisfied with LW, as well as wanting the armor from gift bag 5.
Any advice here on who is best as a companion and who is best as the player character?

2020.06.14 19:18 skertskertbangpow Breaking Apartment Lease

Need Help.
I have been renting with the same company for 3 years.
I have put in multiple work requests and nothing has been fixed. (kitchen sink backing up, broken closet door, smoking stove)

Anyways it wasn't planned but me and the GF bought a house. I want out of the lease with no penalty.

Any ideas?

I know this is a morally grey area, but according to me moral code, they weren't good landlords anyway so i don't feel bad trying to weasel out of this one.

I have attached the lease for review.

Lease was transcribed from PDF, so there might be some strange words or letters.

2020.05.31 04:28 DOS2_Beast Could we get a sidekick dlc?

Like each origin character has a character that is almost only there to support them but is also their best friend, just like 1 additional side quest each and they have more info on the characters backstory. Like they don’t have to be combat able but maybe like a summon unique to each character that can be found on the ship whenever you are there Red prince has a little imp that is actually quite scholarly and plays chess with him all the time or a young sibling who was exiled with him but isn’t as spoiled as him and scolds the red prince for being so sometimes. Beast has found a friend in a loyalist while at the fort and likes them as a person but they get into heated debates on what to do when they get back Lohse has a backup singer or partner Sebille has an elf assassin in training she set free as she escaped Fane has a woman he accidentally scared to death when he first emerged and raised with her soul still in her and she accompanies him because if she gets too far the spell ends but she’s been with him for the past few centuries Ifan has a young boy who joined the wolves on a whim and Ifan is trying his best to get him to leave the wolves because he knows it’s a bad life but he’s in too deep.

2020.04.12 05:24 DoorknobMan3 Creating the best Spider-Man movie

A while ago, I wanted to rewrite The Amazing Spider-Man. However, I decided not to because I came up with a far more interesting idea: what if I merged all three modern Spider-Men (Maguire, Garfield, Holland) to create the best Spider-Man story? Today, I’m going to be answering that question.
This will hopefully be the first in a series. The first installment will combine elements of both Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man and will have the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming (for the most part). The antagonist will remain Rhys Ifans’ Dr. Curt Connors, AKA the Lizard and while it will still have the “Peter’s parents” subplot, it will not carry over into future installments.
Before we start, however, understand that this is not how I would have done Tom Holland’s trilogy, as this is not even set in the MCU. I’m simply merging bits and pieces from every live-action incarnation to create the best Spider-Man story as I said earlier because I don’t want my creativity to be chained up by continuity.
Anyway, Peter’s suit will look like this.
The suit is homemade and created by Peter. It’s the best choice because it has:
Also, the Lizard is much more animalistic in my version and he has a snout because reasons. This means he will not be mixing chemicals and he most definitely will not speak.
Now, let’s get into it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The film begins with a young Peter Parker discovering his father’s study has been burglarized by unseen perpetrators. His parents gather some documents, take him to the home of his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in Queens, and then depart and never return.
Years later, teen Peter Parker visits an Oscorp genetics laboratory while on a field trip with his class, which includes his crush Gwen Stacy. While Dr. Curt Connors gives the tour, Peter starts taking pictures of various things, including Gwen like an obsessed stalker because, y’know, he’s socially awkward and that’s relatable. A few moments later, an escaped genetically-engineered “super-spider” bites him.
Peter seemingly falls ill when he returns home and sleeps like an angel, waking up the next day to find he can see better than ever before without glasses and has developed a muscular physique (play romantic music). At school, his quickened reflexes and heightened ability to sense danger keep him safe during a confrontation with Flash Thompson. Peter also discovers he has developed superhuman strength and the ability to stick to surfaces.
After he comes home, Uncle Ben hands Peter his father’s briefcase, saying:
“This is your father’s briefcase. He took the D-Train to work everyday, and always brought this with him. Come to think of it, your mother actually sold it to him; that’s how they met. Anyway, he made a point of leaving it behind that night so I figured you should have it. It’s only right.”
Peter accepts it and searches the bag, finding his father’s research notes and discovering that his father’s lab partner was Dr. Curt Connors, the same guy who was giving the tour. When Peter goes to visit him, Connors briefly mentions that a missing “decay rate algorithm” has stalled progress for the cross-species tests indefinitely, and Peter gives him the algorithm from his father’s research notes. Connors later tests it on a rat by himself at Oscorp Tower and succeeds.
The next day, Peter uses his abilities to pick on Flash Thompson. Uncle Ben picks him up, and they argue at home, where he says the iconic line:
“Your father had a philosophy. A principle, really. ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’ Isn’t that what he always said, May?”
May nods as confirmation.
“And you know what? He was right. If you can do good things for good people, you have a moral obligation to do those things. That’s what’s at stake here. Not choice, responsibility.”
Peter, in a moment of anger, reveals he’s always hated his parents for abandoning him, and asks why his father didn’t raise him himself if he claimed to believe in responsibility so strongly. This leaves Uncle Ben speechless, and Peter goes to his room in a fit of rage.
Brushing off Uncle Ben’s advice, Peter continues to selfishly use his powers for money and enters an underground fighting tournament a few days later to get it. He wins his first match, but the promoter cheats him out of his winnings, and moments later, a thief suddenly robs the promoter’s office. Peter allows him to escape as revenge and moments later, he discovers Uncle Ben was carjacked and killed.
Peter pursues and confronts the carjacker, only to realize it was the thief he let escape. Peter disarms him and the carjacker flees but dies after falling out a window, and upon Uncle Ben’s funeral, begins using his abilities to fight injustice, donning a costume and the persona of Spider-Man as a promise to him, as well as creating web-shooters. Spider-Man develops quite the reputation, and there’s a brief easter egg where the Daily Bugle, now an online news article in order to modernize it a little bit, has written a piece calling Spider-Man a menace.
Peter also asks Gwen Stacy out on a date, and as a response, she invites him to her place for dinner. There, Peter has a tense conversation with her father, police captain George Stacy, over the new masked vigilante’s motives. After dinner, Peter and Gwen talk, but they don’t kiss and Peter doesn’t reveal who he is. We’ll save that for later.
After seeing success with the mouse using lizard DNA with the decay rate algorithm, Dr. Ratha demands Connors begin human trials immediately. Connors refuses to rush the drug-testing procedure and put people at risk, but Ratha fires Connors in retaliation and decides to test the serum at a Veterans’ Administration hospital under the guise of a flu-shot.
In an act of desperation, Connors tests the serum out on himself, and his missing arm regenerates after passing out. He discovers Ratha is on his way to the VA hospital and goes to intercept him, but his skin begins to turn green and scaly, and by the time he reaches the Williamsburg Bridge, Connors has become a violent hybrid of lizard and man and begins to toss cars over the edge.
However, Ratha manages to escape before Connors reaches him, and catches a brief glimpse at the creature before running away. Anyway, Peter sees the event on the news and arrives, snatching each car and webbing them to the side of the bridge. He then briefly fights Connors, but the creature retreats to the sewers.
Peter follows him into the sewers, and designs a neat web like an actual spider to catch him, with his camera rigged to the wall to get evidence. Connors surprise attacks him, though, and Peter sustains cuts on his chest from his claws before falling into the water beneath, escaping the beast.
Peter goes to Gwen Stacy to clean his wounds, who he trusts with his identity. She obviously freaks when she learns he’s Spider-Man but they still kiss, minus the cringey dialogue. Meanwhile, Connors learns Spider-Man’s identity via the name on the camera he left behind and follows him to school, where they fight again. During the fight, the Lizard steps on the bag Peter threw at him and we hear a crunch. The rest of the fight continues the same way, Stan Lee cameo and all.
After the fight, Peter checks the contents of the bag and discovers his father’s calculator was crushed, and coins fall out which have the name “Roosevelt” on them. He then follows Connors back to his lair, where he tells Peter a few interesting things:
Connors then takes the serum begins to transform into the Lizard and stumbles off, presumably towards the nearest exit.
Peter calls Gwen, telling her about what Connors just said. During the conversation, Peter says the Lizard crushed his father’s calculator during the fight in the school, and coins came out with the name “Roosevelt” on them. He thinks it may have something to do with the fact that he took the D-Train to work. Gwen, still at the school but with the police having finally arrived, checks one of their computers and finds an old abandoned subway station. She doubts it’s special, but she tells Peter how to get there anyways.
They also piece together that not everything in Peter’s life was as it seemed. His father was lab partners with Connors as they worked on cross-species experiments, yet Connors didn’t know the decay rate algorithm. However, Uncle Ben noted that his brother intentionally left the briefcase behind which had the algorithm in it, despite all the other documents Peter knew he took with him. Peter and Gwen come to the conclusion that whatever is at the abandoned subway station may be worth checking out, and Peter hangs up.
He arrives, but is confused. The subway station is old and abandoned. He pops in one of the coins to potentially reveal something, and part of a subway train rises from the ground. Peter finds a computer inside with a message from his father explaining the whole ordeal. Peter’s father discovered Oscorp had evil intentions for the serum he was developing the last night he would ever see Peter again when some of his research was stolen.
At the time of the recording, he had destroyed most of his research except for what was in his bag which he trusted with Aunt May and Uncle Ben and was on a plane to Europe where he planned to go into hiding. He pulls a Howard Stark, saying Peter is his greatest creation, and Peter tears up a little bit. His father was actually a hero and not the grade-A dirtbag he thought he was.
At the end, Peter’s father tells how to make an antiserum because he knew something like Connors becoming the Lizard would happen and there needed to be a way to reverse it. Peter makes the antiserum and heads off to Oscorp Tower to save Dr. Ratha while Captain Stacy calls for a manhunt for both Spider-Man and the Lizard after the incident at the school. Captain Stacy and his men corner the former by shooting a few rubber bullets at him, because Spider-Man getting tased is by far the wimpiest thing I’ve ever heard of.
When Captain Stacy removes Peter’s mask, he’s shocked. Peter takes out his men and does the whole “with great power” thing to explain everything, then says he needs to get to Oscorp or the Lizard will kill someone. Captain Stacy lets him go, understanding why he’s doing this and makes his men promise to never describe what Spider-Man looks like under the mask.
Peter makes his way to Oscorp Tower where he and the Lizard meet on the side of the building. As a news helicopter covers the situation, we see Gwen watching on nervously, biting her nails. Peter tries to convince Connors that he’s a good man and that he doesn’t have to do this, but Connors just roars at him. Remember, when he’s the Lizard he has an animalistic nature. During the ensuing fight, Ratha nearly dies several times. Peter and Connors’ fight results in desks and chairs being thrown and crashing through walls, all of which Ratha nearly avoids until the end of the fight when he’s pinned under a fallen wall.
Connors goes to kill him, but Peter pulls the wall pinning Ratha towards himself, hitting Connors and stunning him. This allows Peter to restrain and inject the antiserum into him. Gradually, he turns into Connors, and Ratha watches on in fascination. Connors watches as his arm fades away.
Ratha tells Peter that he will do as much as he can to make his heroics known just before the police arrive. Captain Stacy rises out of his car, and sees Connors about 50 feet off the ground in the center of a giant web with a note on his chest, saying,
“Found giant lizard,
-Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.”
At the end of the movie, Peter returns home, and hugs a worried Aunt May, and there’s a scene where Peter tells Gwen he can’t be with her as it’s too dangerous. Gwen is hurt but Peter is, too. Peter also hands the video of his father to the police which begins an investigation into Oscorp, but his secret still manages to be kept secret.
The final shot of the movie is not him swinging triumphantly, but standing at Uncle Ben’s grave. He puts down flowers, and as he leaves, he walks towards the camera, and we get an ending narration:
“No matter what I do, no matter how hard I try, someone will always pay when I don’t follow these words: ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’ Whatever life holds in store for me, this is my gift. My curse. Who am I? I’m Spider-Man.”
An end-credits scene shows Dr. Ratha talking to a sick Norman Osborn about the investigation. Norman Osborn suggests that since the investigation will most likely be successful, they should contact Norman's old friend, Wilson Fisk, to secretly continue the research.

2020.01.12 05:33 Thomasfreid Not meeting team members?

So I'm starting my third playthrough, have yet to even reach Act II.
In hopes to have an uncluttered journal I am wondering what happens with the other party members if I ignore them at Fort Joy?
I've finally decided on doing a Lone Wolf run as managing four characters was becoming more of a chore than fun.
I am going to be playing with Fane as my main character and Ifan as my partner.
Fane will be a Two-handed Necromancer focusing on reanimation corpses and being a tank. Ifan is going to be my pet master, focusing on summoning, although I'm struggling to decide between using a bow, or wands.
Any advice or tips for a good Necromancer and Summoner combo would also be appreciated.

2019.12.11 05:15 Viontis ...Help

So my girlfriend and I got this game recently for PS4 and we’ve never played anything like it but we heard it was phenomenal and wanted to give it a try. I’m a custom fighter-necromancer and my gf is Sebille as an aerothurge. Problem is, we’re both kinda lost, me especially. From here on out, if I sound like an uncultured noob, it’s because I am and wanna learn.
We are in the beginning at Fort Joy and trying to do side quests, but have no idea where to go, what to do, who to partner with or most importantly, how to build our team around us (we have Fane and Beast right now), etc.
Will we miss out on important story lines if we don’t partner with everyone like Ifan and the Red Prince? Not looking for spoilers, just an honest yes or no.
Finally, any advice for how to do side quests would be much appreciated. I’m getting lost right after getting a side quest, don’t understand the journal system, or how I can more easily find some of the objectives. Red/gold flags and the difference between them is also unclear. I’m cool with exploration and stuff, but am having a hard time keeping my bearings especially without having access to a full size map to look at.
TLDR: I know nothing, need help with everything.

Speaking of bumper offline adventures with friends, check out the video below for a taste of what Divinity: Original Sin - The Board Game offers[...]
“Creating an analogue adventure game that you could enjoy at home with your friends and family has been something we’ve wanted to do for a very long time. We’ve been on the lookout for a partner who could successfully capture the Divinity: Original Sin experience in a board game format. After many, many prototypes, we’re delighted to say Lynnvander have really come up with something that hit the core of what we tried to do with Divinity,” says Swen Vincke, founder of Larian Studios.
Meet new playable characters Farzanah and Vali, as they’re joined by notable DOS2 characters Ifan Ben-Mezd and The Red Prince, who band together against the might of the magisters, teaming up to survive the horrors of Fort Joy and beyond.
Interactive story, elemental interactions, source magic, exploration, cooperative play, replayability, crafting, great combat, epic loot and equally epic monsters, are all included to give you the most authentic Divinity board game possible.

Update #1 and update #3 announce numerous stretch goals, while update #2 shares a thank you message and some behind the scenes photos. Here's the message:
That was quite a rush!
It took over a year to develop the first prototype and make it to this point, and thanks to you, only four hours to reach our funding goal. But this is just the beginning… well… the middle.
We can’t thank you enough for the adrenaline you’ve thrown our way today, and we’ve spent the day trying to keep up with the velocity of the campaign and what comes next. We have 29 days to cover, and we hear you loud and clear: you’re into it!
So are we. And so with that said, we’ve cooked up a few stretch goals. To tide us all over.
Beast and Lohse, two of Divinity: Original SIn 2’s characters make their way to the game, joining Ifan, Vali, Farzanah, and the infamous Red Prince. Along with these friends comes upgrades for the Summoners of you, featuring two high quality minis, the Incarnate and the Bone Widow.
The good thing about these Stretch goals is that if we reach them, everyone will benefit from them because all stretch goal content is automatically added to your boxes.

2019.09.15 21:40 creaturefeature9191 Help me manage my inventory

I’m a hoarder. A pack rat. A walking junk drawer. You want skill books, I got ‘em. Need the parts to throw a meat golem together? Well partner,if you’ve got your own right leg I’ve got everything else you need, even some spare intestines. Locked doors? I’ve got more keys than a janitor at a lock factory
You get the point. My inventory is full of junk and stuff that might be junk.I’m about 15 hours or so in, having beaten most (I think) of Fort Joy. Should I be picking up less stuff? Should I be crafting more? Can I offload this stuff on any passing trader? Where the fuck do I find the Space Pope so that Ifan can put a stinky crossbow bolt in his genocidal ass?
Any information about the economy of junk and location of mercenary contractual obligations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and gig ‘em
Edit: it may be worth noting I am playing on the easiest difficulty

What Are the Biggest Alleged Crypto Heists and How Much Was Stolen?

As the appeal of cryptocurrency has grown, so has the opportunity for scammers to part naive investors from their money. 2019 has been no exception, with cryptocurrency and blockchain forensics company Ciphertrace dubbing it “the year of the exit scam.”
Exit scams are not a new phenomenon, with a 2018 report conducted by Statis Group revealing over 80% of initial coin offerings (ICOs) in that year to have been fraudulent. Here, Cointelegraph explains exit scams and how to spot them, as well as a look at some of the biggest scams that have been discovered by various researchers.

What are exit scams?

The premise of cryptocurrency is simple, a new ICO launches, claiming to offer lucrative returns for investors. Investors can’t believe their luck and clamor to buy in. The business runs for some time on the back of the invested capital, but, sooner or later, disaster strikes and the company shuts down, often with no explanation.
After a while, it becomes obvious that the company is gone for good, along with the invested funds. The poisoned chalice of crypto’s decentralized nature often means that investors are left in the dark when trying to recoup or trace their pilfered funds.

How to spot an exit scam

Many exit scams have tell-tale signs that investors should look out for. The financial content site Investopedia has a handy list of key characteristics.
First, exit scams often have inconsistent or misleading information about the team behind the project. When scouting potential investment opportunities, investors should scour for information on key members of any ICO.
It’s important to remember that online credibility can be faked by purchasing likes, profiles and followers on social media. Celebrity endorsements with verified accounts could also ring alarm bells for investors. A fake Twitter account purporting to be Elon Musk, with a supposedly verified twitter account, raised over $155,000 as part of a 2018 Bitcoin scam.
Investors should verify the credentials of backers, team leaders and promoters of cryptocurrency projects. Although individuals may seem to be legitimate at first glance, brand new social mediaprofiles and few followers or connections should raise eyebrows.
The most significant characteristic unifying exit scams in cryptocurrency is the promise of a huge return on investment (ROI) — chances are that it’s probably too good to be true. Investors should always look through even the smallest details of what they are required to invest and what the company purports to be able to give back to them.
ICOs usually come with a white paper, setting out the design details of the project along with a business plan and other information. Investors should pursue all available information for ICOs, as any vagueness in the white papers should signal a big red flag.
When investing in an ICO, it’s vital to get an understanding of the business model. Investopdia writes that anything powered by concept alone should be a warning to anyone tempted to buy in. Although cryptocurrency projects can and do launch off the back of technological advances, investors should be wary of projects looking to gather millions of dollars before taking a sober look at the project’s ability to return the investment from the published information.
Heavy promotion of an upcoming ICO can also be a sign of an exit scam. Past scams have employed bloggers to promote via numerous forums. Ads both online and in print media could also be suspicious.

$2.9 billion PlusToken scam could be largest exit scam ever

A 2019 report shared with Cointelegraph by the cryptocurrency and blockchain forensics company Ciphertrace dubbed 2019 the year of the exit scam and highlighted the billions of dollars stolen in multiple scams this year alone.
The report shines a light on what, if confirmed, could be the biggest crypto scam ever, with an estimated loss of around $2.9 billion after Chinese police uncovered an alleged Ponzi schemeinvolving the South Korean wallet provider and exchange PlusToken. Although more is being uncovered about PlusToken, mystery still surrounds the key events.
Ciphertrace reports that the platform has enshrouded several Chinese nationals, the government of Vanuatu, the Chinese police and the company’s co-founders — a South Korean man operating under the alias of “Kim Jung Un” and a Russian known only as “Leo.” The alleged PlusToken scam centers around an app with which the wallet provider claimed investors could invest in PlusToken (PLUS).
According to the report, the firm claimed that the token, based on the Ethereum blockchain, was developed by a major technology company. PlusToken is also said to have falsely stated that it could deliver wallet holders an ROI of between 8% and 16% per month, with a minimum deposit of $500 in crypto assets.
Ciphertrace also reported that no verifiable source of revenue existed other than the proceeds from new membership. Those were onboarded per the traditional method of a Ponzi scheme, which require a constant stream of new investment in order to support its semblance of growth. Investors were incentivized to recommend new users with an invitation, which was the only way to join.
Although this was enough for some members to dismiss the legitimacy of the project outright, Leo, the company’s co-founder, published a press release that claimed he had met with Prince Charles, the future head of the English royal family, providing photos as proof. Ciphertrust reported that it had contacted the Prince Charles Foundation, which confirmed that Leo had indeed attended the event, but would not provide other information about the individual due to European Union General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR.
PlusToken’s fate was seemingly sealed on June 28, after members of the Chinese police touched down in Vanuatu, detained six people involved with the project and extradited them back to mainland China. Ciphertrace reported that the so-called “PlusToken Six” were either Vanuatu citizens or applying for citizenship at the time of their arrest.
Soon after, PlusToken members found that they were unable to withdraw funds from their accounts. Customers were informed that withdrawals via the app were frozen due to “technical difficulties.” By June 20, the PlusToken app had ceased operations due to purported system maintenance.
For investors, there seems to be no secure lead on the final resting place of the allegedly billions of dollars of stolen funds. The Chinese government has yet to comment. A July 12 post from PlusToken stated that the six Chinese individuals were simply service users and not actually involved with the running of the company itself, stating that users should ignore the rumors and not try to log in until they receive confirmation that the servers are back online.

Pincoin

On April 9, 2018, two ICOs — iFan and Pincoin — operating under the umbrella of company Modern Tech based in Vietnam, went silent after reports outed them as scams that had scalped 32,000 investors out of an alleged $660 million in tokens, according to Tuoi Tre News.
Victims claim that the damages amount to roughly 15 trillion Vietnamese dong ($660 million) in token sales. Angered investors held a demonstration outside Modern Tech’s Ho Chi Minh City headquarters on April 8.
One of the initial characteristics that could have alarmed investors was the fact that Pincoin offered service users bonuses for successfully bringing other people on board. Pincoin did initially pay out cash until January 2018, when the company switched to iFan tokens, TechCrunch reported.
The owner of Modern Tech’s office building said that the company left its offices in March and that no one knew their current whereabouts. The firm left behind only an incomplete website that is now inactive. Modern Tech initially tried to pass itself off as a mere representative of both coins in Vietnam, prior to media reports confirming that seven of its Vietnamese executives were in fact behind the projects.
TechCrunch reported that the ambiguous mission statement from the then-functional site is typical of the vague and jargon-filled copy used by exit scammers:
“The PIN Project is about building an online collaborative consumption platform for global community, base on principles of Sharing Economy, Blockchain Technology, and Crypto Currency”
Financial scam directory Behindmlm released a report in February 2018 that found its buy-in method was typical of an ROI Ponzi scheme. Pincoin’s website is currently down, though iFan’s is still online.

QuadrigaCX — regulators catch on

The death of 30-year old Gerald Cotten shook the crypto world — not only because Cotten was the co-founder and CEO of Canada’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, QuadrigaCX, but also because his control of the passwords and keys to accounts rendered all the assets on the exchange forever inaccessible after his death. Cotten took over $195 million of stolen cryptocurrency with him to the grave.
Related: QuadrigaCX Users Lose $190M as Speculations Over Cotten’s Death Swirl
Commenting on the May 9 Ernst & Young report, Ciphertrace said Cotten had played fast and loose with customer funds for many years in order to support a lavish lifestyle for both himself and his wife. Cotten allegedly exercised complete control over the exchange and used his position to perform “unsupported deposits” — i.e., fabricated transactions not represented by either fiat or cryptocurrency.
Cotten also used significant volumes of customers’ cryptocurrency via transfers from the platform into other exchanges he controlled. As per the EY report, Cotten shifted significant amounts of fiat and cryptocurrency between alias accounts, although less than 1% of these transfers was supported by documentation. Ciphertrace notes that as the admin, Cotten was in a perfect position to hide his fraudulent activities.
In a pattern that may now seem familiar, Cotten used customer funds to pay for QuadrigaCX operating costs after the company suffered liquidity issues due to his reported fraudulent use of user deposits. As QuadrigaCX began to struggle to stay afloat, EY reported that Cotten gambled customer funds in off-platform margin accounts to meet margin calls.
The report also states that Cotten traded unsupported deposits for legitimate funds thereby generating artificial trading markets, abused his position to override Know Your Customer requirements and hoarded all passwords:
“The Monitor understands passwords were held by a single individual, Mr. Cotten and it appears that Quadriga failed to ensure adequate safeguard procedures were in place to transfer passwords and other critical operating data to other Quadriga representatives should a critical event materialize (such as the death of key management personnel).”
As of April 12, EY estimated that Quadriga held around $20.8 million in assets and around $160 million in liabilities. The debts and assets are spread over three subsidiary companies, 0984750 B.C. LTD. (the “Quadriga Estate”), Quadriga Fintech Solutions and Whiteside Capital Corporation. On July 31, the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia approved over $1.6 million in fees for parties seeking remuneration from the exchange, according to court documents.PDF) seen by Cointelegraph.

CFTC action launched after $147 million BTC scheme

On June 18, 2019, the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) initiated a civil enforcement action against now-defunct Control-Finance Limited for a scheme involving $147 million worth in Bitcoin.
It is alleged that Control-Finance Ltd. defrauded over 1,000 investors by laundering around 22,858 Bitcoin. In mid-September 2017, its website was abruptly taken offline, payments to clients were suspended and advertising content from social media accounts was deleted.
The firm initially said that it would reimburse customers by late 2017. However, the company allegedly began transferring laundered Bitcoin by using the crypto wallet service CoinPayments. According to Ciphertrace’s Q2 2019 Anti-Money Laundering (AML) report, the CFTC complaint charges the company and its founder Benjamin Reynolds with:
“Exploiting public enthusiasm for crypto assets by fraudulently obtaining and misappropriating at least 22,858.22 Bitcoin from more than 1,000 customers through a classic high-yield investment (HYIP) Ponzi scheme called the Control-Finance Affiliate Program.”
Per the CFTC, the company claimed that investors who buy Bitcoin through the firm would be guaranteed daily profits thanks to their team of expert cryptocurrency traders. The complaint also stated that the firm falsely claimed market volatility would ensure funds invested through Control-Finance would result in profit.
The CFTC also alleged that Control-Finance misleadingly promised that it could earn customers a 1.5% ROI daily and 45% monthly. Control-Finance is also reported to have sent partial amounts of new clients’ BTC deposits to other customers, which were disguised as profit from trading, a tactic typical of Ponzi schemes. The legal action seeking civil monetary penalties and permanent trading bans continues.

Co-owner of Bitmarket found shot dead after alleged exit scam

On July 8, the Poland-based exchange Bitmarket shut down, citing liquidity issues. According to Ciphertrace’s Q2 2019 AML report, the shutdown cost users around 2,300 Bitcoin, approximately $23 million. Users attempting to log on to the site were met with the following message:
“We regret to inform you that due to the loss of liquidity, since 08/07/2019, Bitmarket.pl/net was forced to cease its operations. We will inform you about further steps.”
Ciphertrace reports that Bitmarket had a history of partners pulling out. In 2015, the firm lost payment processors CashBill and BlueMedia after the companies' banks requested they end their working relationship with Bitmarket. PKO Bank Polski, Bitmarket’s own bank, also terminated its relationship with the firm only six months after Bank BPH had done so earlier in 2015.
Bitmarket’s two founders, Marcin Aszkiełowicz and Tobiasz Niemiro, have contradicting accounts about the misplaced user funds. Aszkiełowicz claimed that the exchange had been hacked for 600 BTC in 2015, an incident from which the company was unable to recover.
Niemiro, however, claimed that he was not responsible for activities on the exchange. Niemiro also purported to have been told that the company was purchased with a deficit of 600 BTC, which he allegedly repaid with his own money. Niemiro said he could not confirm that his partners had indeed used the money to purchase the 600 BTC.
Two weeks after the interview, Niemiro was found dead in a forest near his home with a gunshot wound to the head, which the police deemed to be self-inflicted. The District Attorney’s Office stated that it is not looking into the involvement of third parties in Niemiro’s death, but are still actively investigating the misappropriation of funds.

2019.08.09 00:22 mechkbfan Duo (Lone Wolf) Co-Op - Best way to make it balanced?

I'm looking for level of difficulty where we approximately reload every 2nd fight. (Only get 4 hours a week to play, so can't spend the entire time reloading over and over)

This is first play through so we decided to go 1 character each to minimise fluffing around.
We setup as Story difficulty + Fane/Thief + Ifan/Ranger and picked Lone Wolf.
Already the game is too easy after 2 hours, and we are walking into fights without any preparation and smashing it.
For example, with no planning for early fights (crocodile, beach, underground fights), I got to 50% health and my partner unhurt with average equipment.

I like the extra AP from LW, but the majority of other perks just seem OP.

Some questions / ideas:
- Would moving to Tactician be hard enough? (and do we have to start a new game to change it?)
- What would be a mod to balance it without fundamentally changing the game? (Had seen one that increased NPC health by %)
- Does the game get harder? (From random threads I've read, it seems no)
- If we took away Lone Wolf, and instead went heavy into stealing/lucky charm, would that balance it?
- If I was to nerf Lone Wolf perks, what would be a better number?

2019.07.23 10:28 raz_81 Another build/party advice thread for a new player

I bought the game over a week ago, and have been researching and contemplating builds and party make up ever since. I've only played the bottom level of the tutorial ship so far.
I'll be playing solo most of the time, but my partner will drop in and out from time to time on a character she likes/creates right at the start with me.
Keen to have a party of 4 (reminiscing Baldur's Gate as my first rpg!) so Lone Wolf is out. Also not overly keen on Necro but it may fit well with Sebille.
Firstly, I am not 100% the below is possible since I understand you have to pick a preset for the NPCs but I assume you can respec them?
Char1 - theiving, backstabbing stealthy dual welding dwarf (Beast)
Char2 - archer and summoner. (Ifan)
Now the stuff I'm not sure about
Char3 - mage of some description. Recommendations? Fire and poison seems fun, but so does water and electricity (sorry I don't remember the names exactly). Origin character??
Char4 - I have no healer or tank. Is a warrior and hydro a viable combo? I understand that the healing spells don't need Int to scale? Origin character??
Thanks for any advice !
Edit: playing on ps4 so mods are out of the question

2019.06.29 14:40 quicksilver53 Questions on filling out party

Hey I'm new to the game and trying to do some party planning here but I've got some gaps to fill and looking for suggestions. Right now I'm planning for a physical party but what I'm most confused is how to supplement the physical damage with magic skills for buffs/CC etc. My big plan is warriorangesummoner but then I'm not sure what to fill as my 4th. I don't really like rogues so ideally some other type of physical damage dealer.
Fane (wayfareNecro) Hes my main character and I actually really like the undead warrior vibe.
Lohse (summone???) I think summoner sounds really fun, but I'm not sure what else to partner here? Is it feasible for summoner to also support with heals and other magic?
Ifan or Sebille (range???) I know I want a ranger but I'm not sure which character I want. Also I don't know what other skills complement the rangers
4th character ???

2019.06.04 23:42 Stealthex_io The Biggest Scams In The Crypto History

The cryptocurrency market is often compared to the Wild West. Digital gold, lawlessness, and unlimited Internet space attract not only honest people but also rascals. Today we will show you the loudest scam projects and cyber-attacks that seriously shattered the crypto society.
PayCoin
A mix of cloud mining and Ponzi scheme, which was promoted by Geniuses at Work Corporation Miners (GAW) in 2014. These guys make the first move by renting and selling virtual HashSet miners, which helped them form a loyal audience. Seeing that this project began to go down, the team decided to invent their own coin — PayCoin. People were promised a breakthrough technology, support from banks and other organizations, huge profits, free and fast transactions all around the world. As a result, the project started just awesome, which attracted the attention of a large number of miners and users. As you can guess all creators’ promises didn’t come true — Paycoin started to fall and users filed a lot of court complaint.
In the fall of 2018, the creator of PayCoin, Joshua Garza, was sentenced to 21 months in prison, obliging investors to pay damages of $9.2 million, although the total amount of financial investments was over $54 million.
BitConnect
Do you know how to tell that you’re participating in a scam? Just start with “Wasa Wasa Wasup BitConnect” as Carlos Matos did. BitConnect platform appeared in 2016 and immediately announced its intention to join the elite of the digital economy, bringing super-profits to all project participants without exception. The essence of the criminal scheme was simple: “Invest and get 100% and more.” The organizers promised investors an income of 365% per year! After the enormous excitement of the crypto market, the cost of the BitConnect token was equal to $463. This attracted the attention of reputable persons like Mike Novogratz, Charlie Lee, and Vitalik Buterin. For example, the creator of Litecoin — Charlie Lee — twitted the following:
“From the surface, BitConnect seems like a classic Ponzi scheme. I wouldn’t invest in it and wouldn’t recommend anyone else to.”
But even after such concerns, many people continued to invest in BitConnect. However, in early January 2018, the project unexpectedly turned down all of the activities and closed its platform. Investors were left with nothing. According to general estimates, the investors were deceived for more than $2.5 billion! In the summer of 2018, the head of Bitconnect India Divyesh Darji was arrested.
Beware that on July 1, 2019, a project Bitconnect 2.0 can be launched according to the news posted on Twitterby the same-named user.
Ifan and Pincoin
Start-ups Ifan and Pincoin, owned by the Vietnamese company Modern Tech, raised a whopping $660 million from approximately 32.000 people. The majority of the victims were the citizens of Vietnam. This scam project was labeled the “largest exit scam in recent memory” by TechCrunch.Project’s marketing strategy was so perfect that it was impossible to resist. So Ifan was promoted as “the most advanced social network” for celebrities and their fans. On the other side, Pincoin attracted investors with a promised investment return of 40% per month. The creators of Pincoin wrote about the development of an online platform covering an advertising network, a service for auctions, an investment portal, and P2P platform based on the blockchain.
But in fact both ICOs used a Ponzi scheme: users invested money, received their interest, brought friends and received additional interest. After some time, Modern Tech stopped paying out dividends in fiat and invited users to switch to their own tokens. As a result, they just made a fool of the investors.
This provoked massive rallies in front of the Modern Tech office, during which investors demanded a refund. But the scammers just escaped into the night with a $660 million jackpot.
Mt.Gox
In 2014 Mt.Gox exchange platform was one of the most popular resources for Bitcoin trading: it accounted for more than 70% of all transactions with BTC. A real tidbit, isn’t it?
Unfortunately, Mt.Gox was slowly turning into chaos. In the fall of 2013, US federal agents collected $5 million from the company’s bank account, since Mt.Gox was not registered as a financial intermediary. At the same time, Coinlab, the company’s former partner, filed a lawsuit against Mt.Gox, demanding $75 million. The lawsuit stated that Mt.Gox violated the terms of the agreement with Coinlab and continued to trade in the United States and Canada.
These problems led to failures with the platform. For example, American users waited for months to withdraw funds. In February 2014, Mt.Gox stopped the withdrawal of coins at all and the CEO of Mt.Gox — Mark Karpeles — refused to give any comments. Around the same time, an internal company document became available to the press explaining the reason for the failures — over the past several years around BTC 745,000 were stolen from the service. The total amount worth around $450 million at the time! What’s more, this was approximately 7% of all Bitcoin existing at the time.
“Even the sloppiest of audits should have shown that something had gone wrong, that money was flowing out of Gox accounts.” — The Verge.
Later the 200,000 stolen Bitcoins was found on an old wallet of the company. However, approximately 650,000 remain lost forever. According to Mt.Gox version, hackers used a bug in the transaction system that existed from the first day and quietly transferred small amounts of coins to their wallets. For sure the Mt. Gox case is the biggest crypto heist in history. No doubts, scam projects, and hack attacks will continue to emerge in a crypto world. Unfortunately, there is no universal remedy from them, but here are a few tips on how to reduce the risks of being scammed:
